OSINT Overview In a cybersecurity industry, a security professional utilises open-source intelligence (OSINT) to comprehensively assess and respond to a potential threat. Whether that will be in the response to a cyber attack or the motion of preparing a client for what a cyber attacker may find. OSINT allows for the security professional to identify threat actors, analyse behaviours, investigate infrastructure, and provide support when monitoring for any Indicators of Compromise (IoC). What is OSINT? Open-source intelligence (OSINT) is the practice of gathering and analysing information from publicly available sources to gain insights, assess risks, and make informed decisions on potential threat actors or to gain insights on a target. These sources include websites, social media platforms, news articles, government sites like Companies House, online forums, and more. Security professionals collect, verify, and interpret data from these open sources to uncover valuable information about individuals, organisations, and events. OSINT plays a vital role in various fields, enabling professionals to stay informed, make strategic decisions, and mitigate risks based on publicly accessible information. How are we going to perform OSINT in this course? Within the course we are going to you through the motions of using tools to that would allow you to identify a threat actor and how to perform elements of OSINT on your client, like you would as an attacker. Throughout the course, we will be looking at: - Assessing External Infrastructure - Reverse Image Search - Search Term Analysis - Meta Data Analysis - Google Hacking All of which can add to your OSINT skillset within cybersecurity.
