The Proxy tab in Burp allows users to intercept traffic after it leaves the browser and before it gets to the server.  This ensures that testers are able to see the different requests that are being made and what parameters exist as part of this communication.  Within the proxy, it is possible to make modifications to values and then forward the data to the server.
