Installing Kali

Downloading & Installing Kali

Kali Linux is one of the most well-known Operating Systems (OS) will a lot of penetration testing tools pre-installed. To complete a lot of the exercises within NGS Academy it will be needed downloaded:

Downloading Kali

1. Navigate to the following URL: https://www.kali.org/

2. Click on Download or Get Kali

3. Choose the variation needed for your instance - in the in video we download the Bare Metal 64-bit ISO Installer

Installing Kali

4. Create a new virtual machine within VirtualBox by clicking on the New icon

5. Name the virtual machine whatever you like, we named ours Kali Linux 2022

6. Make sure the Version and Type are correct, in our case we selected Linux and Ubuntu 64-bit

7. Turn on the newly made virtual machine

8. You will be prompted to point the ISO file to the virtual machine, select Add and then the ISO file you downloaded from kali.org

9. Once the Kali OS has booted, select the Graphical Installer

10. Select the appropriate language

11. Select the needed location

12. Select the keyboard layout to match your keyboard - for the UK, British English is the best one to choose

13. There will be a prompt for the hostname, the default is Kali, you can leave it as that or change it to any other value you wish

14. The next stage will be to create a user and password, create the two values accordingly

15. Domain prompt will be left as blank by default, which is absolutely fine, feel free to click next

16. Hard drive changes will be prompted to be confirmed, nothing to worry about. It just saying do you wanted to install the OS on the virtual Hard Drive (HDD) we created within VirtualBox

17. Once Installed, login with the credentials you created…all good to go!
