What is the Metasploit Framework?

Metasploit is a computer security project that provides information about security vulnerabilities and aids in penetration testing and IDS signature development. It is owned by Boston, Massachusetts-based security company Rapid7.  

The Metasploit Framework is an open-source security project run by the company Rapid7 that provides information about security vulnerabilities. It is an essential tool to the majority of penetration testers, security researchers and security students.  

Metasploit has been well known for its extensive exploit database, along with numerous other tools/functionality like, being able to enumerate targets. The framework also includes functionality, like anti-forensic, evasion tools, all of which can be used as  security professional day to day.
